If you have a dusty work environment or small chassis machines, its' good to clean them out to prevent heat break-down. Reinstalling the hardware into a larger case with additional fans is also good data-loss prevention.
UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) is far superior to the average surge power strip for protecting your computer against power problems. Surge strips wear out and stop protecting after a few hard electrical hits. At best, they should be replaced every year. Battery-backed UPS devices not only offer much better surge protection, but they keep your computer operating for a short period during a total power loss or brown-out.
